And so Izuku goes and tests into the support path in U.A., he's smart and can think well on his feet. Not to mention he has a running portfolio on all the active heroes within the last decade, and notes on some of the up and comers after the sports festival.
He's not nearly as showy as Mei, doesn't have the same pile of discarded creations. But what he does have is steady hands and creations that have a lot of love and effort poured into them. He might not be a hero, but the support staff is something indispensable for a hero.
It's just too bad that the person he got paired up with is his childhood friend. The rest of his class picked the heroes they wanted much faster than him.
