( since one's the loneliest number... )
[ If Akashi had to explain it, he wouldn't be able to. He is, of course, aware that there has always been a duality to his existence — Akashi Seijuurou is inherently not one but two, and it has never particularly bothered him much. It is what it is, and he is who he is. End of story.
But even still, he never expected to be literally two people.
For better or for worse, though, he won't be the first one to make that discovery. Nope, that one will fall to Mayuzumi (the poor, poor guy who happened to have the [mis]fortune to be Akashi's soulmate), because when he wakes up in the morning, he's not going to find himself spooning with Akashi. He's going to find himself sandwiched right in between Akashis, each of them looking plenty comfortable where they're snuggled in.
Here is the living proof that more is not always better. ]

When his groggy thoughts finally pieced together that Akashi couldn't be the little spoon and the little spoon, Mayuzumi's eyes cracked open to verify that yes, they were still in their own bedroom. He had no memory of either of them inviting someone else into their bed, or of even having done anything to warrant any drunken regrets.
It isn't until he turns his head enough to see who it is behind him that Mayuzumi sits up abruptly—or tries to. He's a little bogged down by Akashi... and Akashi.
It figured that his soulmate could be both spoons.]
What the fuck.

It takes a few moments before the first — the Akashi with two red eyes — finally opens his eyes long enough to register that... oh. There sure are two Akashi Seijuurous... ]
Hm. This isn't what I expected to wake up to.
[ He is way too calm about this. ]

[Mayuzumi is very tempted to roll over onto the one behind him for all of three seconds before he just huffs and lays back down instead. This was probably a very elaborate dream. What on earth had he read or eaten to have his subconscious come up with this?
It was too early for him to try figuring this out, especially if it were all a dream. The second Akashi behind him sure felt incredibly real, though. The one in front of him seemed a little different too, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what had changed.]
no subject
[ He isn't sure what to make of the fact that Mayuzumi thinks he can plan for that. Maybe he should be flattered, but he's not entirely sure.
The other Akashi finally seems ready to get up, stirring and sitting up himself. He blinks a few times, and stares past Mayuzumi to look at his other self. He frowns and opens his mouth, but doesn't say anything right away. Then, he finally comes up with something to say. ]
So that's why the bed felt cramped. Hmm.
no subject
[Neither of them acting truly surprised about this feels surreal. Like one of his light novels, almost. The thought startles a chuckle out of him.]
One of you should pinch me, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to wake up from this.
no subject
The yellow-eyed Akashi frowns as he pulls back, giving Mayuzumi a suspicious look. ]
This isn't a dream. You didn't do anything to me, did you?
no subject
With as lightly as you sleep, you really think I'd be able to pull off something this big? I'd be lucky to get away with not setting off your radar before we went to bed.
no subject
[ Yellow-eyed Akashi is still giving him a suspicious look, but after a few moments, he backs down. It's the other Akashi who speaks up next. ]
Well... what's done has been done. Hopefully things go back to normal at some point, but unless you have any bright ideas on how to expedite that process...
no subject
[Mayuzumi feels like he has two choices here: freak out about there being two of Akashi... or accept it for what it is and move on. The first option sounds far less appealing, especially since he's already started to move past that point. He doesn't have any answers for how to fix this, either.
Now that he's seriously thinking about it, Mayuzumi realizes he's definitely started to settle more toward accepting the fact that there's practically twins in their bed, and his imagination is already starting to perk up.]
I don't, but I do know you can't both go out at the same time. One of you is going to have to stay home from work tomorrow. Everyone knows you were an only child.
no subject
[ Both Akashis say this in unison, and then immediately turn to look at each other with matching half-frowns. For a few moments, they are strangely silent, probably because both of them are playing out in their heads what an argument with himself would entail — it's nothing he isn't used to contemplating. He does play a lot of one-man shogi, after all.
After a few moments, yellow-eyed Akashi sighs sharply and gets up. ] Fine, I'll stay in. This is more convenient anyway, it'll be twice as efficient.
no subject
Planning on working from home too?
[Of course Akashi would think of something like that while his other self also went to work in person. He doesn't feel like getting up just yet, himself. It's their day off, and he'd planned on sleeping in a little more than this. Deciding to make a point of that, he rolls over to snare the other Akashi around the waist before he can decide it's time for them to be up and about too.]
no subject
[ But why wouldn't he take advantage of this opportunity to do twice as much work? Ignoring the fact that he already does a near superhuman amount of work on his own to begin with. God forbid he just relax or something.
The yellow-eyed Akashi picks an outfit out of his drawers and puts them on; if his other self wants to cuddle, that's his prerogative, but he has other ideas. ]
I'm making breakfast. Shall I call for you when I'm done?
no subject
[He doesn't have any other suggestions that he thinks Akashi would agree to. It still feels surreal that he gets to enjoy a nice, warm bed with Akashi and a breakfast that neither of them has to get up to cook. Once the other is gone, he huffs a soft breath over the top of Akashi's hair before attempting to nuzzle a little at his neck.]
You know, this almost feels as if I'm being spoiled.
[Almost, because this is still a problem. One they can hopefully deal with later.]
no subject
[ Just because having two of him is useful doesn't mean it isn't... weird. Very weird. Akashi would prefer it if he weren't splitting into two for no particular reason. He sighs deeply before pressing into the touch, nuzzling back in turn. ]
... But at least it doesn't seem to be a pressing problem. Yet.
no subject
[If creating distance between them actually hurt Akashi, Mayuzumi would call them both out of work. Even if he had to gag one or both of them to do it. He could still work from home anyway. Pulling back a bit, he gives Akashi a good, searching look. His face looks softer somehow, almost younger, even. Humming to himself, Mayuzumi strokes his thumb below the eye that isn't usually a match for the other.]
We may not always get along, but you are my soulmate and I do care for you... Both parts of you, I should add.
[Shit, maybe he's the one that's gone soft.]
no subject
[ There's a pause, and then Akashi breaks into a genuine (if small) smile, the kind of smile that takes up the entire face, not just the mouth. ]
I ought to have recorded that. You should say it again when both of me are here.
[ Now he's pretty sure he's Mayuzumi won't say it again, but ah well. He'll share this discovery with other him anyway. ]
Don't worry, I'll take care of myself. If not for my own sake, but to make sure you won't have to concern yourself with it.
no subject
[He's grumbly, but fair is fair. He knows he'd be miffed if he'd been the one to get split in two and the other half of him got to hear something like that out of Akashi and he didn't.
It would also be worth it if he got to see that expression again. Realizing he'd gotten sidetracked, Mayuzumi pokes Akashi right in the gut with two fingers.]
Uh-uh, no dodging the question. Besides, you saying something like that just makes me wo- er, think you'll just not tell me if something feels wrong.
[What a nice save; he should pat himself on the back.]
no subject
I'll tell you, but I have no idea how to tell if anything's wrong. This isn't exactly... a normal thing to happen, so how am I supposed to tell what's abnormal and okay as opposed to abnormal and harmful?
[ As far as he can tell, there's no pain; he doesn't seem to be missing any memories... there's just a separate him, that's all. ]
no subject
[He likes to think he's gotten to know Akashi well enough to notice that much. Ah, but speaking of noticing things...]
Did you know your eyes changed colors? The other you—his are definitely both the shade your left eye was when we went to bed.
[If he's lucky, he mentioned that quickly enough that Akashi won't argue with him.]
no subject
[ No way!! He's totally going to work tomorrow, it will take a reckoning larger than this to break his record of "days he hasn't had to call in sick, I am immune to illness, I'm Akashi Seijuurou and I will conquer viruses through sheer force of will".
At the mention of his different colored eyes, though, he does have to take pause. ]
... I had thought it might be something like that, though I couldn't be sure without a mirror.
no subject
[His biggest worry at the moment is proximity. Mayuzumi can only imagine what might happen if one of them left for work while the other stayed home, only for them to collapse or worse. He doesn't want to even think of the worst that could happen.
Realizing he was holding Akashi a little more tightly than he'd intended, he sighs and eases up a little. As much as he may have been taking this lightly before, the more he lets himself seriously think about it, the more upset it makes him. That's probably the last thing Akashi needs right now.]
... I don't think I follow you. You think this has something to do with your eyes?
no subject
[ Well, now that he thinks about it, there were a lot of things that happened surrounding the time that his eyes changed back to being a matching pair of red. Like the fact that they were in the middle of a basketball game. Also the fact that they lost that basketball game. ]
When you met me, I had two different colored eyes. A year later, they were the same... are you following what I'm getting at?
[ Maybe it would help if he just. Explained. Directly. ]
no subject
[As... interesting..... as his last year in highschool was, Mayuzumi would really rather not be reminded of that game. What he'd done at the time, he'd done because it was Akashi asking him. He likes to think that if it had been anyone else but his soulmate pulling that shit, he would have outright refused.
His thumb starts stroking at Akashi's side, back and forth, back and forth as he listens.]
no subject
[ It doesn't surprise him that Mayuzumi caught onto that much, though, considering that's sort of Mayuzumi's thing. Observing people.
He wraps his arms a little more tightly around Mayuzumi in turn, settling at the curve of his waist and resting there, almost a little possessive. ]
no subject
[Oh.
Oh no. Mayuzumi freezes as he thinks about what Akashi's saying, and what he just said. It had been an off-hand remark, but. But. He feels like things are starting to suddenly click into place, and he really has to wonder again how this might actually be affecting Akashi if it were true.]
Akashi. Would the you in the kitchen happen to be the type to say something like that?
