( since one's the loneliest number... )
[ If Akashi had to explain it, he wouldn't be able to. He is, of course, aware that there has always been a duality to his existence — Akashi Seijuurou is inherently not one but two, and it has never particularly bothered him much. It is what it is, and he is who he is. End of story.
But even still, he never expected to be literally two people.
For better or for worse, though, he won't be the first one to make that discovery. Nope, that one will fall to Mayuzumi (the poor, poor guy who happened to have the [mis]fortune to be Akashi's soulmate), because when he wakes up in the morning, he's not going to find himself spooning with Akashi. He's going to find himself sandwiched right in between Akashis, each of them looking plenty comfortable where they're snuggled in.
Here is the living proof that more is not always better. ]

[ But it's a nice thought, dream big Mayuzumi. Hopefully he hasn't gotten too comfortable in the meanwhile, though, because from the kitchen the other Akashi calls out — ]
Breakfast is ready, hurry up before it gets cold.
no subject
Coming!
[Right after he takes a moment to pin Akashi to the bed for a surprise, possessive kiss. Mayuzumi does fantasize about the day he can so thoroughly wear him out in bed, but even he has to admit that with two of them, he'd be more likely to pass out from sexual bliss... not that that seemed all too bad an idea, either.]
no subject
The yellow-eyed Akashi's already sitting at the kitchenette island, awaiting them. ]
What took you two so long?
no subject
Even if he's different, Mayuzumi knows he's also very much the same in many other ways. He leans in to steal his second kiss of the morning, and though this one is slower, it's still just as possessive as the first had been. When he pulls back his voice is soft, though the other Akashi can probably hear him anyway.]
I promised I'd tell you, too, that even if we don't always get along—even if something like this happens—you're still my soulmate and I care for every part of you.
[Mayuzumi's smiling as he finds his seat, as if he's been so smooth this whole time and not spent most of the extra time in bed being a worrywart.]
no subject
That's nice, Chihiro.
[ And then, more seriously, he smirks and presses a kiss to Mayuzumi's cheek before taking a seat himself. ]
Were you really that worried? Things will return to normal eventually, I'm sure.
no subject
Of course not. I even said it felt like I was being spoiled.
[Except he totally was. Now though, he can't go and start throwing the same questions at this version of Akashi. Even if he did, Mayuzumi has a hunch he might dodge answering even more than his counterpart had attempted. Hell, it was nice in a way, but if either of them decided they didn't want to worry him and something happened, he was going to be pissed.]
no subject
Don't worry, Chihiro. We're taking this situation seriously.
[ Akashi doesn't plan on risking his bodily integrity. Or, at least, more than he already inherently is... ]

[High school. This part of Akashi definitely reminds Mayuzumi of high school.
At least that year had been... eventful.
He starts in on his breakfast before he can actually voice any of his not-so-flattering thoughts, though he wouldn't be surprised if the both of them could pick up on what he were thinking even at his most unreadable.]
no subject
Not in the least.
[ Ah, Akashi. How wonderful it must be to have so much unwarranted self-confidence. ]
... But things will work out. First, I think we we should consider how this happened... from there we can figure out how to undo it, I would assume.

[Deciding since Akashi had been the one to do the cooking, even if there were still a second Akashi to throw into the routine now, Mayuzumi is the one who ends up at the sink to do the dishes when they're done. His thoughts are as tangled over this problem as they were both in bed and at the table, and by the time he flops down in his favorite armchair, his face has settled into a scowl.
None of them had any idea how to fix this, and given who he was with, would it really be wise to try dragging in a professional? That just begged the question of who on earth could possibly be able to help them with this?]
no subject
Not five minutes after Mayuzumi's plopped down for the time being does one of the Akashis (the one with red eyes) pause as he walks by, stopping to sit on the arm of the seat and leaning in, reaching up to brush at Mayuzumi's hair lightly. ]
Penny for your thoughts?

[His expression relaxes as he exhales, feeling a little rueful. While it was nice to see Akashi like this, it also weirded him out a little. Closing his eyes, he gives a halfhearted shrug.]
I wish there were someone we could take you to see, anyone that might know what they're doing. Probably wouldn't be good to let anyone else know what's happened though.
[Reading wasn't going to be enough to take his mind off of this. Akashi does seem to be handling it well, but Mayuzumi knows Akashi's good at controlling himself. Mostly. Sometimes his face still goes a little weird, but he likes having the chance to point it out when it happens.]
no subject
[ He certainly does see the merit in getting help of some sort, but how could this possibly be explained? Worst case scenario, he could end up being some weird medical anomaly and sent off for testing or something. Or labeled completely crazy, which is (to him) worse. No, better to just try and fix them himself, he figures. ]
I'm not really sure who could help, though... do you have any ideas?
no subject
[Someone would be bound to accuse Akashi's family of cloning sooner or later, as well. Imagining what sort of press that might explode into makes Mayuzumi want to shudder. He can't imagine what it would be like to have so much focus on him; it'd be much more than a highschool basketball game. His forehead wrinkles are back as he thinks of all the ways this could possibly blow up in their faces.]
I hate feeling so...
[Helpless.]
no subject
You're not, though. I'm relying on you, alright? [ His tone remains relaxed, even as he cracks what is probably a joke — ] You aren't permitted to be helpless.
no subject
[It's tempting to purposely let Akashi slip, exactly because he wouldn't expect it. Right into Mayuzumi's lap though, as he's not so mean as to let him land on the floor... Well, bad jokes aside, he hadn't done anything lately to deserve that sort of treatment, he mentally amended.
Being careful not to do just that, he slips his arm around Akashi's hips to give him a little tug. It'd be easy enough to resist, but Akashi—this part of him, anyway—seems to be pretty affectionate. It makes Mayuzumi want to take advantage while he can.]
no subject
[ Even before Mayuzumi can agree to it, though, Akashi slides from the arm of the seat onto Mayuzumi's lap, back pressed against his chest. Reaching for either of his hands, Akashi crosses them over his stomach, then clasps his own hands on top of Mayuzumi's, refusing to let them move for the time being. ]
no subject
Surely you don't think I'm going to just accept that.
[Was this Akashi's way of asking for a hug? Well... it was rather roundabout if that were the case, but if it was, even he had to admit it was rather cute. He tightens his grip around the other a little, wondering which of them a hug would be helping more.]
no subject
[ He's just teasing, though. He hums as Mayuzumi nuzzles his neck, turning his face into the touch and —
Just then, the other Akashi walks into the living room. He pauses, gives them a look, and then asks coolly: ] I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
no subject
[Go ahead, Akashi, sit on yourself. He rests his head on the shoulder of the one in his lap, looking thoughtful. Could it be that Akashi's actually jealous of himself? That was entertaining on its own. Maybe he should take extra care to dole out his affections equally, even if one side of Akashi was definitely more prickly than the other.]
no subject
You think you can handle that much weight on you?
[ Look... he's just wondering, okay. But that doesn't stop the other Akashi from walking over, giving them an appraising look, as if trying to figure out whether or not he wants to sit. ]
no subject
[He's totally bluffing; while there's probably room enough for all three of them in the chair, it'd be far from comfortable, least of all for Mayuzumi if he were trapped beneath them. Still, his tone is light and even almost a challenge. He wouldn't mind the distraction attempting to deal with the both of them at the same time would grant. Though it would probably be easier if they moved, he thinks.]
no subject
No, probably not.
[ And then they give each other these brief, sly looks as if to express something like, hah, you totally get me. Well, of course I do. We're technically the same, after all. The one who's standing adds: ]
Well, maybe if we weren't being too serious. But if either of us were being serious... [ He leans forward, reaching past his other self to brush Mayuzumi's cheek with the palm of his hand. ] You should tread carefully.
no subject
I think I've had enough of being careful today.
[After all, he's handled Akashi well enough before this. Having another of him will only make it more of a challenge. They're not on the court, after all. While that might help to settle his restlessness, it isn't what he's interested in right now.]
no subject
[ He's joking. Probably.
... No, he's definitely joking. Akashi cares for people in general too much to be reckless to that extent, although for different reasons between the two of them.
He lets Mayuzumi hold his wrist there, but he leans in to press a kiss to Mayuzumi's cheek, brushing past his other self. ]
In all seriousness, though, it'll get a bit... cramped here, don't you think.
[ The Akashi occupying Mayuzumi's lap adds: ] Mm, the bedroom might be more comfortable.
[ Even though it seems like he doesn't want to get up... ]
